10:24
إِنَّ مَا مَثَلُ ٱلْ حَيَوٰةِ ٱل دُّنْيَا كَ مَآءٍ أَنزَلْ نَٰ هُ مِنَ ٱل سَّمَآءِ فَ ٱخْتَلَطَ بِ هِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلْ أَرْضِ مِ مَّا يَأْكُلُ ٱل نَّاسُ وَ ٱلْ أَنْعَٰمُ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذَتِ ٱلْ أَرْضُ زُخْرُفَ هَا وَ ٱزَّيَّنَتْ وَ ظَنَّ أَهْلُ هَآ أَنَّ هُمْ قَٰدِرُونَ عَلَيْ هَآ أَتَىٰ هَآ أَمْرُ نَا لَيْلًا أَوْ نَهَارًا فَ جَعَلْ نَٰ هَا حَصِيدًا كَ أَن لَّمْ تَغْنَ بِ ٱلْ أَمْسِ كَ ذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْ ءَايَٰتِ لِ قَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُ ونَ
The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb - [those] from which men and livestock eat - until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought.
11:102
وَ كَ ذَٰلِكَ أَخْذُ رَبِّ كَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلْ قُرَىٰ وَ هِىَ ظَٰلِمَةٌ إِنَّ أَخْذَ هُۥٓ أَلِيمٌ شَدِيدٌ
And thus is the seizure of your Lord when He seizes the cities while they are committing wrong. Indeed, His seizure is painful and severe.
11:56
إِنِّ ى تَوَكَّلْ تُ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ى وَ رَبِّ كُم مَّا مِن دَآبَّةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ ءَاخِذٌۢ بِ نَاصِيَتِ هَآ إِنَّ رَبِّ ى عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
Indeed, I have relied upon Allah, my Lord and your Lord. There is no creature but that He holds its forelock. Indeed, my Lord is on a path [that is] straight."
11:64
وَ يَٰ قَوْمِ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَ كُمْ ءَايَةً فَ ذَرُ و هَا تَأْكُلْ فِىٓ أَرْضِ ٱللَّهِ وَ لَا تَمَسُّ و هَا بِ سُوٓءٍ فَ يَأْخُذَ كُمْ عَذَابٌ قَرِيبٌ
And O my people, this is the she-camel of Allah - [she is] to you a sign. So let her feed upon Allah 's earth and do not touch her with harm, or you will be taken by an impending punishment."
11:67
وَ أَخَذَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُ وا۟ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ فَ أَصْبَحُ وا۟ فِى دِيَٰرِ هِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
And the shriek seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone
11:94
وَ لَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُ نَا نَجَّيْ نَا شُعَيْبًا وَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُ وا۟ مَعَ هُۥ بِ رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَّ ا وَ أَخَذَتِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُ وا۟ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ فَ أَصْبَحُ وا۟ فِى دِيَٰرِ هِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
And when Our command came, We saved Shu'ayb and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us. And the shriek seized those who had wronged, and they became within their homes [corpses] fallen prone
12:76
فَ بَدَأَ بِ أَوْعِيَتِ هِمْ قَبْلَ وِعَآءِ أَخِي هِ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَخْرَجَ هَا مِن وِعَآءِ أَخِي هِ كَ ذَٰلِكَ كِدْ نَا لِ يُوسُفَ مَا كَانَ لِ يَأْخُذَ أَخَا هُ فِى دِينِ ٱلْ مَلِكِ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَٰتٍ مَّن نَّشَآءُ وَ فَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِى عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ
So he began [the search] with their bags before the bag of his brother; then he extracted it from the bag of his brother. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not have taken his brother within the religion of the king except that Allah willed. We raise in degrees whom We will, but over every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing.
12:78
قَالُ وا۟ يَٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱلْ عَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَ هُۥٓ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا فَ خُذْ أَحَدَ نَا مَكَانَ هُۥٓ إِنَّ ا نَرَىٰ كَ مِنَ ٱلْ مُحْسِنِينَ
They said, "O 'Azeez, indeed he has a father [who is] an old man, so take one of us in place of him. Indeed, we see you as a doer of good."
12:79
قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِ أَن نَّأْخُذَ إِلَّا مَن وَجَدْ نَا مَتَٰعَ نَا عِندَ هُۥٓ إِنَّ آ إِذًا لَّ ظَٰلِمُونَ
He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah [to prevent] that we take except him with whom we found our possession. Indeed, we would then be unjust."
12:80
فَ لَمَّا ٱسْتَيْـَٔسُ وا۟ مِنْ هُ خَلَصُ وا۟ نَجِيًّا قَالَ كَبِيرُ هُمْ أَ لَمْ تَعْلَمُ وٓا۟ أَنَّ أَبَا كُمْ قَدْ أَخَذَ عَلَيْ كُم مَّوْثِقًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَ مِن قَبْلُ مَا فَرَّط تُمْ فِى يُوسُفَ فَ لَنْ أَبْرَحَ ٱلْ أَرْضَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْذَنَ لِ ىٓ أَبِ ىٓ أَوْ يَحْكُمَ ٱللَّهُ لِ ى وَ هُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلْ حَٰكِمِينَ
So when they had despaired of him, they secluded themselves in private consultation. The eldest of them said, "Do you not know that your father has taken upon you an oath by Allah and [that] before you failed in [your duty to] Joseph? So I will never leave [this] land until my father permits me or Allah decides for me, and He is the best of judges.
13:32
وَ لَ قَدِ ٱسْتُهْزِئَ بِ رُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِ كَ فَ أَمْلَيْ تُ لِ لَّذِينَ كَفَرُ وا۟ ثُمَّ أَخَذْ تُ هُمْ فَ كَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
And already were [other] messengers ridiculed before you, and I extended the time of those who disbelieved; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.
15:73
فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ
So the shriek seized them at sunrise.
15:83
فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ
But the shriek seized them at early morning.
16:113
وَ لَ قَدْ جَآءَ هُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ هُمْ فَ كَذَّبُ و هُ فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱلْ عَذَابُ وَ هُمْ ظَٰلِمُونَ
And there had certainly come to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they denied him; so punishment overtook them while they were wrongdoers.
16:46
أَوْ يَأْخُذَ هُمْ فِى تَقَلُّبِ هِمْ فَ مَا هُم بِ مُعْجِزِينَ
Or that He would not seize them during their [usual] activity, and they could not cause failure?
16:47
أَوْ يَأْخُذَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفٍ فَ إِنَّ رَبَّ كُمْ لَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Or that He would not seize them gradually [in a state of dread]? But indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
18:79
أَمَّا ٱل سَّفِينَةُ فَ كَانَتْ لِ مَسَٰكِينَ يَعْمَلُ ونَ فِى ٱلْ بَحْرِ فَ أَرَد تُّ أَنْ أَعِيبَ هَا وَ كَانَ وَرَآءَ هُم مَّلِكٌ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًا
As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working at sea. So I intended to cause defect in it as there was after them a king who seized every [good] ship by force.
19:12
يَٰ يَحْيَىٰ خُذِ ٱلْ كِتَٰبَ بِ قُوَّةٍ وَ ءَاتَيْ نَٰ هُ ٱلْ حُكْمَ صَبِيًّا
[Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy
20:21
قَالَ خُذْ هَا وَ لَا تَخَفْ سَ نُعِيدُ هَا سِيرَتَ هَا ٱلْ أُولَىٰ
[Allah] said, "Seize it and fear not; We will return it to its former condition.
20:39
أَنِ ٱقْذِفِ ي هِ فِى ٱل تَّابُوتِ فَ ٱقْذِفِ ي هِ فِى ٱلْ يَمِّ فَ لْ يُلْقِ هِ ٱلْ يَمُّ بِ ٱل سَّاحِلِ يَأْخُذْ هُ عَدُوٌّ لِّ ى وَ عَدُوٌّ لَّ هُۥ وَ أَلْقَيْ تُ عَلَيْ كَ مَحَبَّةً مِّنِّ ى وَ لِ تُصْنَعَ عَلَىٰ عَيْنِ ىٓ
[Saying], 'Cast him into the chest and cast it into the river, and the river will throw it onto the bank; there will take him an enemy to Me and an enemy to him.' And I bestowed upon you love from Me that you would be brought up under My eye.
20:94
قَالَ يَ بْنَ ؤُمَّ لَا تَأْخُذْ بِ لِحْيَتِ ى وَ لَا بِ رَأْسِ ىٓ إِنِّ ى خَشِي تُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقْ تَ بَيْنَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَ لَمْ تَرْقُبْ قَوْلِ ى
[Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, do not seize [me] by my beard or by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel, and you did not observe [or await] my word.' "
22:44
وَ أَصْحَٰبُ مَدْيَنَ وَ كُذِّبَ مُوسَىٰ فَ أَمْلَيْ تُ لِ لْ كَٰفِرِينَ ثُمَّ أَخَذْ تُ هُمْ فَ كَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ
And the inhabitants of Madyan. And Moses was denied, so I prolonged enjoyment for the disbelievers; then I seized them, and how [terrible] was My reproach.
22:48
وَ كَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَمْلَيْ تُ لَ هَا وَ هِىَ ظَالِمَةٌ ثُمَّ أَخَذْ تُ هَا وَ إِلَىَّ ٱلْ مَصِيرُ
And for how many a city did I prolong enjoyment while it was committing wrong. Then I seized it, and to Me is the [final] destination.
23:41
فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ بِ ٱلْ حَقِّ فَ جَعَلْ نَٰ هُمْ غُثَآءً فَ بُعْدًا لِّ لْ قَوْمِ ٱل ظَّٰلِمِينَ
So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people.
23:64
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذْ نَا مُتْرَفِي هِم بِ ٱلْ عَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْـَٔرُ ونَ
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah] for help.
23:76
وَ لَ قَدْ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بِ ٱلْ عَذَابِ فَ مَا ٱسْتَكَانُ وا۟ لِ رَبِّ هِمْ وَ مَا يَتَضَرَّعُ ونَ
And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]
24:2
ٱل زَّانِيَةُ وَ ٱل زَّانِى فَ ٱجْلِدُ وا۟ كُلَّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْ هُمَا مِا۟ئَةَ جَلْدَةٍ وَ لَا تَأْخُذْ كُم بِ هِمَا رَأْفَةٌ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُن تُمْ تُؤْمِنُ ونَ بِ ٱللَّهِ وَ ٱلْ يَوْمِ ٱلْ ءَاخِرِ وَ لْ يَشْهَدْ عَذَابَ هُمَا طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْ مُؤْمِنِينَ
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse - lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
26:156
وَ لَا تَمَسُّ و هَا بِ سُوٓءٍ فَ يَأْخُذَ كُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day."
26:158
فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱلْ عَذَابُ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَ ءَايَةً وَ مَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُ هُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
26:189
فَ كَذَّبُ و هُ فَ أَخَذَ هُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ ٱل ظُّلَّةِ إِنَّ هُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
And they denied him, so the punishment of the day of the black cloud seized them. Indeed, it was the punishment of a terrible day.
28:40
فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُ وَ جُنُودَ هُۥ فَ نَبَذْ نَٰ هُمْ فِى ٱلْ يَمِّ فَ ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱل ظَّٰلِمِينَ
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
29:14
وَ لَ قَدْ أَرْسَلْ نَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ هِۦ فَ لَبِثَ فِي هِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱل طُّوفَانُ وَ هُمْ ظَٰلِمُونَ
And We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers.
29:37
فَ كَذَّبُ و هُ فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل رَّجْفَةُ فَ أَصْبَحُ وا۟ فِى دَارِ هِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
But they denied him, so the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
29:40
فَ كُلًّا أَخَذْ نَا بِ ذَنۢبِ هِۦ فَ مِنْ هُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْ نَا عَلَيْ هِ حَاصِبًا وَ مِنْ هُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْ هُ ٱل صَّيْحَةُ وَ مِنْ هُم مَّنْ خَسَفْ نَا بِ هِ ٱلْ أَرْضَ وَ مِنْ هُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْ نَا وَ مَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِ يَظْلِمَ هُمْ وَ لَٰكِن كَانُ وٓا۟ أَنفُسَ هُمْ يَظْلِمُ ونَ
So each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allah would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves.
2:206
وَ إِذَا قِيلَ لَ هُ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ أَخَذَتْ هُ ٱلْ عِزَّةُ بِ ٱلْ إِثْمِ فَ حَسْبُ هُۥ جَهَنَّمُ وَ لَ بِئْسَ ٱلْ مِهَادُ
And when it is said to him, "Fear Allah," pride in the sin takes hold of him. Sufficient for him is Hellfire, and how wretched is the resting place.
2:229
ٱل طَّلَٰقُ مَرَّتَانِ فَ إِمْسَاكٌۢ بِ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ تَسْرِيحٌۢ بِ إِحْسَٰنٍ وَ لَا يَحِلُّ لَ كُمْ أَن تَأْخُذُ وا۟ مِ مَّآ ءَاتَيْ تُمُو هُنَّ شَيْـًٔا إِلَّآ أَن يَخَافَ آ أَ لَّا يُقِيمَ ا حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَ إِنْ خِفْ تُمْ أَ لَّا يُقِيمَ ا حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْ هِمَا فِي مَا ٱفْتَدَتْ بِ هِۦ تِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ فَ لَا تَعْتَدُ و هَا وَ مَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱل ظَّٰلِمُونَ
Divorce is twice. Then, either keep [her] in an acceptable manner or release [her] with good treatment. And it is not lawful for you to take anything of what you have given them unless both fear that they will not be able to keep [within] the limits of Allah. But if you fear that they will not keep [within] the limits of Allah, then there is no blame upon either of them concerning that by which she ransoms herself. These are the limits of Allah, so do not transgress them. And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah - it is those who are the wrongdoers.
2:255
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْ حَىُّ ٱلْ قَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُ هُۥ سِنَةٌ وَ لَا نَوْمٌ لَّ هُۥ مَا فِى ٱل سَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَ مَا فِى ٱلْ أَرْضِ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَ هُۥٓ إِلَّا بِ إِذْنِ هِۦ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِي هِمْ وَ مَا خَلْفَ هُمْ وَ لَا يُحِيطُ ونَ بِ شَىْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِ هِۦٓ إِلَّا بِ مَا شَآءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّ هُ ٱل سَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَ ٱلْ أَرْضَ وَ لَا يَـُٔودُ هُۥ حِفْظُ هُمَا وَ هُوَ ٱلْ عَلِىُّ ٱلْ عَظِيمُ
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
2:260
وَ إِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ رَبِّ أَرِ نِى كَيْفَ تُحْىِ ٱلْ مَوْتَىٰ قَالَ أَ وَ لَمْ تُؤْمِن قَالَ بَلَىٰ وَ لَٰكِن لِّ يَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِ ى قَالَ فَ خُذْ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنَ ٱل طَّيْرِ فَ صُرْ هُنَّ إِلَيْ كَ ثُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ جَبَلٍ مِّنْ هُنَّ جُزْءًا ثُمَّ ٱدْعُ هُنَّ يَأْتِي نَ كَ سَعْيًا وَ ٱعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead." [Allah] said, "Have you not believed?" He said, "Yes, but [I ask] only that my heart may be satisfied." [Allah] said, "Take four birds and commit them to yourself. Then [after slaughtering them] put on each hill a portion of them; then call them - they will come [flying] to you in haste. And know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."
2:267
يَٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُ وٓا۟ أَنفِقُ وا۟ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا كَسَبْ تُمْ وَ مِ مَّآ أَخْرَجْ نَا لَ كُم مِّنَ ٱلْ أَرْضِ وَ لَا تَيَمَّمُ وا۟ ٱلْ خَبِيثَ مِنْ هُ تُنفِقُ ونَ وَ لَسْ تُم بِ ـَٔاخِذِي هِ إِلَّآ أَن تُغْمِضُ وا۟ فِي هِ وَ ٱعْلَمُ وٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ
O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
2:48
وَ ٱتَّقُ وا۟ يَوْمًا لَّا تَجْزِى نَفْسٌ عَن نَّفْسٍ شَيْـًٔا وَ لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْ هَا شَفَٰعَةٌ وَ لَا يُؤْخَذُ مِنْ هَا عَدْلٌ وَ لَا هُمْ يُنصَرُ ونَ
And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided.
2:55
وَ إِذْ قُلْ تُمْ يَٰ مُوسَىٰ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَ كَ حَتَّىٰ نَرَى ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَ أَخَذَتْ كُمُ ٱل صَّٰعِقَةُ وَ أَنتُمْ تَنظُرُ ونَ
And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah outright"; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on.
2:63
وَ إِذْ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ كُمْ وَ رَفَعْ نَا فَوْقَ كُمُ ٱل طُّورَ خُذُ وا۟ مَآ ءَاتَيْ نَٰ كُم بِ قُوَّةٍ وَ ٱذْكُرُ وا۟ مَا فِي هِ لَعَلَّ كُمْ تَتَّقُ ونَ
And [recall] when We took your covenant, [O Children of Israel, to abide by the Torah] and We raised over you the mount, [saying], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that perhaps you may become righteous."
2:83
وَ إِذْ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ لَا تَعْبُدُ ونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَ بِ ٱلْ وَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا وَ ذِى ٱلْ قُرْبَىٰ وَ ٱلْ يَتَٰمَىٰ وَ ٱلْ مَسَٰكِينِ وَ قُولُ وا۟ لِ ل نَّاسِ حُسْنًا وَ أَقِيمُ وا۟ ٱل صَّلَوٰةَ وَ ءَاتُ وا۟ ٱل زَّكَوٰةَ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْ تُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِّن كُمْ وَ أَنتُم مُّعْرِضُونَ
And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.
2:84
وَ إِذْ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ كُمْ لَا تَسْفِكُ ونَ دِمَآءَ كُمْ وَ لَا تُخْرِجُ ونَ أَنفُسَ كُم مِّن دِيَٰرِ كُمْ ثُمَّ أَقْرَرْ تُمْ وَ أَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُ ونَ
And [recall] when We took your covenant, [saying], "Do not shed each other's blood or evict one another from your homes." Then you acknowledged [this] while you were witnessing.
2:93
وَ إِذْ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ كُمْ وَ رَفَعْ نَا فَوْقَ كُمُ ٱل طُّورَ خُذُ وا۟ مَآ ءَاتَيْ نَٰ كُم بِ قُوَّةٍ وَ ٱسْمَعُ وا۟ قَالُ وا۟ سَمِعْ نَا وَ عَصَيْ نَا وَ أُشْرِبُ وا۟ فِى قُلُوبِ هِمُ ٱلْ عِجْلَ بِ كُفْرِ هِمْ قُلْ بِئْسَ مَا يَأْمُرُ كُم بِ هِۦٓ إِيمَٰنُ كُمْ إِن كُن تُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
And [recall] when We took your covenant and raised over you the mount, [saying], "Take what We have given you with determination and listen." They said [instead], "We hear and disobey." And their hearts absorbed [the worship of] the calf because of their disbelief. Say, "How wretched is that which your faith enjoins upon you, if you should be believers."
33:61
مَّلْعُونِينَ أَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُ وٓا۟ أُخِذُ وا۟ وَ قُتِّلُ وا۟ تَقْتِيلًا
Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely.
33:7
وَ إِذْ أَخَذْ نَا مِنَ ٱل نَّبِيِّۦنَ مِيثَٰقَ هُمْ وَ مِن كَ وَ مِن نُّوحٍ وَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَ مُوسَىٰ وَ عِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَ أَخَذْ نَا مِنْ هُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًا
And [mention, O Muhammad], when We took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, the son of Mary; and We took from them a solemn covenant.
34:51
وَ لَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ فَزِعُ وا۟ فَ لَا فَوْتَ وَ أُخِذُ وا۟ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ
And if you could see when they are terrified but there is no escape, and they will be seized from a place nearby.
35:26
ثُمَّ أَخَذْ تُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُ وا۟ فَ كَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ
Then I seized the ones who disbelieved, and how [terrible] was My reproach.
36:49
مَا يَنظُرُ ونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً تَأْخُذُ هُمْ وَ هُمْ يَخِصِّمُ ونَ
They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.
38:44
وَ خُذْ بِ يَدِ كَ ضِغْثًا فَ ٱضْرِب بِّ هِۦ وَ لَا تَحْنَثْ إِنَّ ا وَجَدْ نَٰ هُ صَابِرًا نِّعْمَ ٱلْ عَبْدُ إِنَّ هُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
[We said], "And take in your hand a bunch [of grass] and strike with it and do not break your oath." Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah].
3:11
كَ دَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِ هِمْ كَذَّبُ وا۟ بِ ـَٔايَٰتِ نَا فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِ ذُنُوبِ هِمْ وَ ٱللَّهُ شَدِيدُ ٱلْ عِقَابِ
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in penalty.
3:187
وَ إِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُ وا۟ ٱلْ كِتَٰبَ لَ تُبَيِّنُ نَّ هُۥ لِ ل نَّاسِ وَ لَا تَكْتُمُ ونَ هُۥ فَ نَبَذُ و هُ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِ هِمْ وَ ٱشْتَرَ وْا۟ بِ هِۦ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا فَ بِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُ ونَ
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased.
3:81
وَ إِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱل نَّبِيِّۦنَ لَ مَآ ءَاتَيْ تُ كُم مِّن كِتَٰبٍ وَ حِكْمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَآءَ كُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّ مَا مَعَ كُمْ لَ تُؤْمِنُ نَّ بِ هِۦ وَ لَ تَنصُرُ نَّ هُۥ قَالَ ءَ أَقْرَرْ تُمْ وَ أَخَذْ تُمْ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمْ إِصْرِ ى قَالُ وٓا۟ أَقْرَرْ نَا قَالَ فَ ٱشْهَدُ وا۟ وَ أَنَا۠ مَعَ كُم مِّنَ ٱل شَّٰهِدِينَ
And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." [Allah] said, "Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?" They said, "We have acknowledged it." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."
40:21
أَ وَ لَمْ يَسِيرُ وا۟ فِى ٱلْ أَرْضِ فَ يَنظُرُ وا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُ وا۟ مِن قَبْلِ هِمْ كَانُ وا۟ هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْ هُمْ قُوَّةً وَ ءَاثَارًا فِى ٱلْ أَرْضِ فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِ ذُنُوبِ هِمْ وَ مَا كَانَ لَ هُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector.
40:22
ذَٰلِكَ بِ أَنَّ هُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِي هِمْ رُسُلُ هُم بِ ٱلْ بَيِّنَٰتِ فَ كَفَرُ وا۟ فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّ هُۥ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْ عِقَابِ
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.
40:5
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَ هُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَ ٱلْ أَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَعْدِ هِمْ وَ هَمَّتْ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍۭ بِ رَسُولِ هِمْ لِ يَأْخُذُ و هُ وَ جَٰدَلُ وا۟ بِ ٱلْ بَٰطِلِ لِ يُدْحِضُ وا۟ بِ هِ ٱلْ حَقَّ فَ أَخَذْ تُ هُمْ فَ كَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
The people of Noah denied before them and the [disbelieving] factions after them, and every nation intended [a plot] for their messenger to seize him, and they disputed by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth. So I seized them, and how [terrible] was My penalty.
41:17
وَ أَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَ هَدَيْ نَٰ هُمْ فَ ٱسْتَحَبُّ وا۟ ٱلْ عَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْ هُدَىٰ فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمْ صَٰعِقَةُ ٱلْ عَذَابِ ٱلْ هُونِ بِ مَا كَانُ وا۟ يَكْسِبُ ونَ
And as for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.
43:48
وَ مَا نُرِي هِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِىَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِ هَا وَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بِ ٱلْ عَذَابِ لَعَلَّ هُمْ يَرْجِعُ ونَ
And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith].
44:47
خُذُ و هُ فَ ٱعْتِلُ و هُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْ جَحِيمِ
[It will be commanded], "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire,
48:15
سَ يَقُولُ ٱلْ مُخَلَّفُونَ إِذَا ٱنطَلَقْ تُمْ إِلَىٰ مَغَانِمَ لِ تَأْخُذُ و هَا ذَرُ و نَا نَتَّبِعْ كُمْ يُرِيدُ ونَ أَن يُبَدِّلُ وا۟ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ قُل لَّن تَتَّبِعُ و نَا كَ ذَٰلِكُمْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ مِن قَبْلُ فَ سَ يَقُولُ ونَ بَلْ تَحْسُدُ ونَ نَا بَلْ كَانُ وا۟ لَا يَفْقَهُ ونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Those who remained behind will say when you set out toward the war booty to take it, "Let us follow you." They wish to change the words of Allah. Say, "Never will you follow us. Thus did Allah say before." So they will say, "Rather, you envy us." But [in fact] they were not understanding except a little.
48:19
وَ مَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً يَأْخُذُ ونَ هَا وَ كَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا
And much war booty which they will take. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.
48:20
وَعَدَ كُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَغَانِمَ كَثِيرَةً تَأْخُذُ ونَ هَا فَ عَجَّلَ لَ كُمْ هَٰذِهِۦ وَ كَفَّ أَيْدِىَ ٱل نَّاسِ عَن كُمْ وَ لِ تَكُونَ ءَايَةً لِّ لْ مُؤْمِنِينَ وَ يَهْدِيَ كُمْ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
Allah has promised you much booty that you will take [in the future] and has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you - that it may be a sign for the believers and [that] He may guide you to a straight path.
4:102
وَ إِذَا كُن تَ فِي هِمْ فَ أَقَمْ تَ لَ هُمُ ٱل صَّلَوٰةَ فَ لْ تَقُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْ هُم مَّعَ كَ وَ لْ يَأْخُذُ وٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَ هُمْ فَ إِذَا سَجَدُ وا۟ فَ لْ يَكُونُ وا۟ مِن وَرَآئِ كُمْ وَ لْ تَأْتِ طَآئِفَةٌ أُخْرَىٰ لَمْ يُصَلُّ وا۟ فَ لْ يُصَلُّ وا۟ مَعَ كَ وَ لْ يَأْخُذُ وا۟ حِذْرَ هُمْ وَ أَسْلِحَتَ هُمْ وَدَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُ وا۟ لَوْ تَغْفُلُ ونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِ كُمْ وَ أَمْتِعَتِ كُمْ فَ يَمِيلُ ونَ عَلَيْ كُم مَّيْلَةً وَٰحِدَةً وَ لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْ كُمْ إِن كَانَ بِ كُمْ أَذًى مِّن مَّطَرٍ أَوْ كُن تُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَن تَضَعُ وٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَ كُمْ وَ خُذُ وا۟ حِذْرَ كُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِ لْ كَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا
And when you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand [in prayer] with you and let them carry their arms. And when they have prostrated, let them be [in position] behind you and have the other group come forward which has not [yet] prayed and let them pray with you, taking precaution and carrying their arms. Those who disbelieve wish that you would neglect your weapons and your baggage so they could come down upon you in one [single] attack. But there is no blame upon you, if you are troubled by rain or are ill, for putting down your arms, but take precaution. Indeed, Allah has prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
4:153
يَسْـَٔلُ كَ أَهْلُ ٱلْ كِتَٰبِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْ هِمْ كِتَٰبًا مِّنَ ٱل سَّمَآءِ فَ قَدْ سَأَلُ وا۟ مُوسَىٰٓ أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَ قَالُ وٓا۟ أَرِ نَا ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل صَّٰعِقَةُ بِ ظُلْمِ هِمْ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذُ وا۟ ٱلْ عِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْ هُمُ ٱلْ بَيِّنَٰتُ فَ عَفَوْ نَا عَن ذَٰلِكَ وَ ءَاتَيْ نَا مُوسَىٰ سُلْطَٰنًا مُّبِينًا
The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.
4:154
وَ رَفَعْ نَا فَوْقَ هُمُ ٱل طُّورَ بِ مِيثَٰقِ هِمْ وَ قُلْ نَا لَ هُمُ ٱدْخُلُ وا۟ ٱلْ بَابَ سُجَّدًا وَ قُلْ نَا لَ هُمْ لَا تَعْدُ وا۟ فِى ٱل سَّبْتِ وَ أَخَذْ نَا مِنْ هُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًا
And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly", and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath", and We took from them a solemn covenant.
4:161
وَ أَخْذِ هِمُ ٱل رِّبَوٰا۟ وَ قَدْ نُهُ وا۟ عَنْ هُ وَ أَكْلِ هِمْ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱل نَّاسِ بِ ٱلْ بَٰطِلِ وَ أَعْتَدْ نَا لِ لْ كَٰفِرِينَ مِنْ هُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And we have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
4:20
وَ إِنْ أَرَد تُّمُ ٱسْتِبْدَالَ زَوْجٍ مَّكَانَ زَوْجٍ وَ ءَاتَيْ تُمْ إِحْدَىٰ هُنَّ قِنطَارًا فَ لَا تَأْخُذُ وا۟ مِنْ هُ شَيْـًٔا أَ تَأْخُذُ ونَ هُۥ بُهْتَٰنًا وَ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا
But if you want to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a great amount [in gifts], do not take [back] from it anything. Would you take it in injustice and manifest sin?
4:21
وَ كَيْفَ تَأْخُذُ ونَ هُۥ وَ قَدْ أَفْضَىٰ بَعْضُ كُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَ أَخَذْ نَ مِن كُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًا
And how could you take it while you have gone in unto each other and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?
4:71
يَٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُ وا۟ خُذُ وا۟ حِذْرَ كُمْ فَ ٱنفِرُ وا۟ ثُبَاتٍ أَوِ ٱنفِرُ وا۟ جَمِيعًا
O you who have believed, take your precaution and [either] go forth in companies or go forth all together.
4:89
وَدُّ وا۟ لَوْ تَكْفُرُ ونَ كَ مَا كَفَرُ وا۟ فَ تَكُونُ ونَ سَوَآءً فَ لَا تَتَّخِذُ وا۟ مِنْ هُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ حَتَّىٰ يُهَاجِرُ وا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَ إِن تَوَلَّ وْا۟ فَ خُذُ و هُمْ وَ ٱقْتُلُ و هُمْ حَيْثُ وَجَد تُّمُو هُمْ وَ لَا تَتَّخِذُ وا۟ مِنْ هُمْ وَلِيًّا وَ لَا نَصِيرًا
They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.
4:91
سَ تَجِدُ ونَ ءَاخَرِينَ يُرِيدُ ونَ أَن يَأْمَنُ و كُمْ وَ يَأْمَنُ وا۟ قَوْمَ هُمْ كُلَّ مَا رُدُّ وٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلْ فِتْنَةِ أُرْكِسُ وا۟ فِي هَا فَ إِن لَّمْ يَعْتَزِلُ و كُمْ وَ يُلْقُ وٓا۟ إِلَيْ كُمُ ٱل سَّلَمَ وَ يَكُفُّ وٓا۟ أَيْدِيَ هُمْ فَ خُذُ و هُمْ وَ ٱقْتُلُ و هُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْ تُمُو هُمْ وَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكُمْ جَعَلْ نَا لَ كُمْ عَلَيْ هِمْ سُلْطَٰنًا مُّبِينًا
You will find others who wish to obtain security from you and [to] obtain security from their people. Every time they are returned to [the influence of] disbelief, they fall back into it. So if they do not withdraw from you or offer you peace or restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you overtake them. And those - We have made for you against them a clear authorization.
51:16
ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰ هُمْ رَبُّ هُمْ إِنَّ هُمْ كَانُ وا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ
Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good.
51:40
فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُ وَ جُنُودَ هُۥ فَ نَبَذْ نَٰ هُمْ فِى ٱلْ يَمِّ وَ هُوَ مُلِيمٌ
So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
51:44
فَ عَتَ وْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّ هِمْ فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل صَّٰعِقَةُ وَ هُمْ يَنظُرُ ونَ
But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
54:42
كَذَّبُ وا۟ بِ ـَٔايَٰتِ نَا كُلِّ هَا فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ
They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.
55:41
يُعْرَفُ ٱلْ مُجْرِمُونَ بِ سِيمَٰ هُمْ فَ يُؤْخَذُ بِ ٱل نَّوَٰصِى وَ ٱلْ أَقْدَامِ
The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
57:15
فَ ٱلْ يَوْمَ لَا يُؤْخَذُ مِن كُمْ فِدْيَةٌ وَ لَا مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُ وا۟ مَأْوَىٰ كُمُ ٱل نَّارُ هِىَ مَوْلَىٰ كُمْ وَ بِئْسَ ٱلْ مَصِيرُ
So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire. It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the destination.
57:8
وَ مَا لَ كُمْ لَا تُؤْمِنُ ونَ بِ ٱللَّهِ وَ ٱل رَّسُولُ يَدْعُو كُمْ لِ تُؤْمِنُ وا۟ بِ رَبِّ كُمْ وَ قَدْ أَخَذَ مِيثَٰقَ كُمْ إِن كُن تُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
And why do you not believe in Allah while the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant, if you should [truly] be believers?
59:7
مَّآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِ هِۦ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْ قُرَىٰ فَ لِ لَّهِ وَ لِ ل رَّسُولِ وَ لِ ذِى ٱلْ قُرْبَىٰ وَ ٱلْ يَتَٰمَىٰ وَ ٱلْ مَسَٰكِينِ وَ ٱبْنِ ٱل سَّبِيلِ كَىْ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةًۢ بَيْنَ ٱلْ أَغْنِيَآءِ مِن كُمْ وَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰ كُمُ ٱل رَّسُولُ فَ خُذُ و هُ وَ مَا نَهَىٰ كُمْ عَنْ هُ فَ ٱنتَهُ وا۟ وَ ٱتَّقُ وا۟ ٱللَّهَ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْ عِقَابِ
And what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
5:12
وَ لَ قَدْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَ بَعَثْ نَا مِنْ هُمُ ٱثْنَىْ عَشَرَ نَقِيبًا وَ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ إِنِّ ى مَعَ كُمْ لَ ئِنْ أَقَمْ تُمُ ٱل صَّلَوٰةَ وَ ءَاتَيْ تُمُ ٱل زَّكَوٰةَ وَ ءَامَن تُم بِ رُسُلِ ى وَ عَزَّرْ تُمُو هُمْ وَ أَقْرَضْ تُمُ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا لَّ أُكَفِّرَ نَّ عَن كُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِ كُمْ وَ لَ أُدْخِلَ نَّ كُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِ هَا ٱلْ أَنْهَٰرُ فَ مَن كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ مِن كُمْ فَ قَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَآءَ ٱل سَّبِيلِ
And Allah had already taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We delegated from among them twelve leaders. And Allah said, "I am with you. If you establish prayer and give zakah and believe in My messengers and support them and loan Allah a goodly loan, I will surely remove from you your misdeeds and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way."
5:14
وَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُ وٓا۟ إِنَّ ا نَصَٰرَىٰٓ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ هُمْ فَ نَسُ وا۟ حَظًّا مِّ مَّا ذُكِّرُ وا۟ بِ هِۦ فَ أَغْرَيْ نَا بَيْنَ هُمُ ٱلْ عَدَاوَةَ وَ ٱلْ بَغْضَآءَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْ قِيَٰمَةِ وَ سَوْفَ يُنَبِّئُ هُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِ مَا كَانُ وا۟ يَصْنَعُ ونَ
And from those who say, "We are Christians" We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded. So We caused among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah is going to inform them about what they used to do.
5:41
يَٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱل رَّسُولُ لَا يَحْزُن كَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُسَٰرِعُ ونَ فِى ٱلْ كُفْرِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُ وٓا۟ ءَامَ نَّا بِ أَفْوَٰهِ هِمْ وَ لَمْ تُؤْمِن قُلُوبُ هُمْ وَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُ وا۟ سَمَّٰعُونَ لِ لْ كَذِبِ سَمَّٰعُونَ لِ قَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَ لَمْ يَأْتُ و كَ يُحَرِّفُ ونَ ٱلْ كَلِمَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَوَاضِعِ هِۦ يَقُولُ ونَ إِنْ أُوتِي تُمْ هَٰذَا فَ خُذُ و هُ وَ إِن لَّمْ تُؤْتَ وْ هُ فَ ٱحْذَرُ وا۟ وَ مَن يُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ فِتْنَتَ هُۥ فَ لَن تَمْلِكَ لَ هُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُطَهِّرَ قُلُوبَ هُمْ لَ هُمْ فِى ٱل دُّنْيَا خِزْىٌ وَ لَ هُمْ فِى ٱلْ ءَاخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
O Messenger, let them not grieve you who hasten into disbelief of those who say, "We believe" with their mouths, but their hearts believe not, and from among the Jews. [They are] avid listeners to falsehood, listening to another people who have not come to you. They distort words beyond their [proper] usages, saying "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware." But he for whom Allah intends fitnah - never will you possess [power to do] for him a thing against Allah. Those are the ones for whom Allah does not intend to purify their hearts. For them in this world is disgrace, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.
5:70
لَ قَدْ أَخَذْ نَا مِيثَٰقَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَ أَرْسَلْ نَآ إِلَيْ هِمْ رُسُلًا كُلَّمَا جَآءَ هُمْ رَسُولٌۢ بِ مَا لَا تَهْوَىٰٓ أَنفُسُ هُمْ فَرِيقًا كَذَّبُ وا۟ وَ فَرِيقًا يَقْتُلُ ونَ
We had already taken the covenant of the Children of Israel and had sent to them messengers. Whenever there came to them a messenger with what their souls did not desire, a party [of messengers] they denied, and another party they killed.
69:10
فَ عَصَ وْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّ هِمْ فَ أَخَذَ هُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً
And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].
69:30
خُذُ و هُ فَ غُلُّ و هُ
[Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him.
69:45
لَ أَخَذْ نَا مِنْ هُ بِ ٱلْ يَمِينِ
We would have seized him by the right hand;
6:42
وَ لَ قَدْ أَرْسَلْ نَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِ كَ فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بِ ٱلْ بَأْسَآءِ وَ ٱل ضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّ هُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُ ونَ
And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].
6:44
فَ لَمَّا نَسُ وا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُ وا۟ بِ هِۦ فَتَحْ نَا عَلَيْ هِمْ أَبْوَٰبَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَرِحُ وا۟ بِ مَآ أُوتُ وٓا۟ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بَغْتَةً فَ إِذَا هُم مُّبْلِسُونَ
So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.
6:46
قُلْ أَ رَءَيْ تُمْ إِنْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ سَمْعَ كُمْ وَ أَبْصَٰرَ كُمْ وَ خَتَمَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ كُم مَّنْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَأْتِي كُم بِ هِ ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلْ ءَايَٰتِ ثُمَّ هُمْ يَصْدِفُ ونَ
Say, "Have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah could bring them [back] to you?" Look how we diversify the verses; then they [still] turn away.
6:70
وَ ذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُ وا۟ دِينَ هُمْ لَعِبًا وَ لَهْوًا وَ غَرَّتْ هُمُ ٱلْ حَيَوٰةُ ٱل دُّنْيَا وَ ذَكِّرْ بِ هِۦٓ أَن تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌۢ بِ مَا كَسَبَتْ لَيْسَ لَ هَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِىٌّ وَ لَا شَفِيعٌ وَ إِن تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لَّا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْ هَآ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُبْسِلُ وا۟ بِ مَا كَسَبُ وا۟ لَ هُمْ شَرَابٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ وَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۢ بِ مَا كَانُ وا۟ يَكْفُرُ ونَ
And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind with the Qur'an, lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; it will have other than Allah no protector and no intercessor. And if it should offer every compensation, it would not be taken from it. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve.
73:16
فَ عَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱل رَّسُولَ فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
79:25
فَ أَخَذَ هُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلْ ءَاخِرَةِ وَ ٱلْ أُولَىٰٓ
So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
7:130
وَ لَ قَدْ أَخَذْ نَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِ ٱل سِّنِينَ وَ نَقْصٍ مِّنَ ٱل ثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّ هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُ ونَ
And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.
7:144
قَالَ يَٰ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّ ى ٱصْطَفَيْ تُ كَ عَلَى ٱل نَّاسِ بِ رِسَٰلَٰتِ ى وَ بِ كَلَٰمِ ى فَ خُذْ مَآ ءَاتَيْ تُ كَ وَ كُن مِّنَ ٱل شَّٰكِرِينَ
[Allah] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."
7:145
وَ كَتَبْ نَا لَ هُۥ فِى ٱلْ أَلْوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْعِظَةً وَ تَفْصِيلًا لِّ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ فَ خُذْ هَا بِ قُوَّةٍ وَ أْمُرْ قَوْمَ كَ يَأْخُذُ وا۟ بِ أَحْسَنِ هَا سَ أُو۟رِي كُمْ دَارَ ٱلْ فَٰسِقِينَ
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."
7:150
وَ لَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ هِۦ غَضْبَٰنَ أَسِفًا قَالَ بِئْسَ مَا خَلَفْ تُمُو نِى مِنۢ بَعْدِ ىٓ أَ عَجِلْ تُمْ أَمْرَ رَبِّ كُمْ وَ أَلْقَى ٱلْ أَلْوَاحَ وَ أَخَذَ بِ رَأْسِ أَخِي هِ يَجُرُّ هُۥٓ إِلَيْ هِ قَالَ ٱبْنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلْ قَوْمَ ٱسْتَضْعَفُ و نِى وَ كَادُ وا۟ يَقْتُلُ ونَ نِى فَ لَا تُشْمِتْ بِ ىَ ٱلْ أَعْدَآءَ وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ نِى مَعَ ٱلْ قَوْمِ ٱل ظَّٰلِمِينَ
And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "How wretched is that by which you have replaced me after [my departure]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord?" And he threw down the tablets and seized his brother by [the hair of] his head, pulling him toward him. [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, indeed the people oppressed me and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice over me and do not place me among the wrongdoing people."
7:154
وَ لَمَّا سَكَتَ عَن مُّوسَى ٱلْ غَضَبُ أَخَذَ ٱلْ أَلْوَاحَ وَ فِى نُسْخَتِ هَا هُدًى وَ رَحْمَةٌ لِّ لَّذِينَ هُمْ لِ رَبِّ هِمْ يَرْهَبُ ونَ
And when the anger subsided in Moses, he took up the tablets; and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who are fearful of their Lord.
7:155
وَ ٱخْتَارَ مُوسَىٰ قَوْمَ هُۥ سَبْعِينَ رَجُلًا لِّ مِيقَٰتِ نَا فَ لَمَّآ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل رَّجْفَةُ قَالَ رَبِّ لَوْ شِئْ تَ أَهْلَكْ تَ هُم مِّن قَبْلُ وَ إِيَّٰىَ أَ تُهْلِكُ نَا بِ مَا فَعَلَ ٱل سُّفَهَآءُ مِنَّ آ إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا فِتْنَتُ كَ تُضِلُّ بِ هَا مَن تَشَآءُ وَ تَهْدِى مَن تَشَآءُ أَنتَ وَلِيُّ نَا فَ ٱغْفِرْ لَ نَا وَ ٱرْحَمْ نَا وَ أَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْ غَٰفِرِينَ
And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [as well]. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done? This is not but Your trial by which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.
7:165
فَ لَمَّا نَسُ وا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُ وا۟ بِ هِۦٓ أَنجَيْ نَا ٱلَّذِينَ يَنْهَ وْنَ عَنِ ٱل سُّوٓءِ وَ أَخَذْ نَا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُ وا۟ بِ عَذَابٍۭ بَـِٔيسٍۭ بِ مَا كَانُ وا۟ يَفْسُقُ ونَ
And when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We saved those who had forbidden evil and seized those who wronged, with a wretched punishment, because they were defiantly disobeying.
7:169
فَ خَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ هِمْ خَلْفٌ وَرِثُ وا۟ ٱلْ كِتَٰبَ يَأْخُذُ ونَ عَرَضَ هَٰذَا ٱلْ أَدْنَىٰ وَ يَقُولُ ونَ سَ يُغْفَرُ لَ نَا وَ إِن يَأْتِ هِمْ عَرَضٌ مِّثْلُ هُۥ يَأْخُذُ و هُ أَ لَمْ يُؤْخَذْ عَلَيْ هِم مِّيثَٰقُ ٱلْ كِتَٰبِ أَن لَّا يَقُولُ وا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْ حَقَّ وَ دَرَسُ وا۟ مَا فِي هِ وَ ٱل دَّارُ ٱلْ ءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّ لَّذِينَ يَتَّقُ ونَ أَ فَ لَا تَعْقِلُ ونَ
And there followed them successors who inherited the Scripture [while] taking the commodities of this lower life and saying, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Scripture taken from them that they would not say about Allah except the truth, and they studied what was in it? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allah, so will you not use reason?
7:171
وَ إِذْ نَتَقْ نَا ٱلْ جَبَلَ فَوْقَ هُمْ كَأَنَّ هُۥ ظُلَّةٌ وَ ظَنُّ وٓا۟ أَنَّ هُۥ وَاقِعٌۢ بِ هِمْ خُذُ وا۟ مَآ ءَاتَيْ نَٰ كُم بِ قُوَّةٍ وَ ٱذْكُرُ وا۟ مَا فِي هِ لَعَلَّ كُمْ تَتَّقُ ونَ
And [mention] when We raised the mountain above them as if it was a dark cloud and they were certain that it would fall upon them, [and Allah said], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that you might fear Allah."
7:172
وَ إِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّ كَ مِنۢ بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ مِن ظُهُورِ هِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَ هُمْ وَ أَشْهَدَ هُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِ هِمْ أَ لَسْ تُ بِ رَبِّ كُمْ قَالُ وا۟ بَلَىٰ شَهِدْ نَآ أَن تَقُولُ وا۟ يَوْمَ ٱلْ قِيَٰمَةِ إِنَّ ا كُ نَّا عَنْ هَٰذَا غَٰفِلِينَ
And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
7:199
خُذِ ٱلْ عَفْوَ وَ أْمُرْ بِ ٱلْ عُرْفِ وَ أَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْ جَٰهِلِينَ
Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.
7:31
يَٰ بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خُذُ وا۟ زِينَتَ كُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَ كُلُ وا۟ وَ ٱشْرَبُ وا۟ وَ لَا تُسْرِفُ وٓا۟ إِنَّ هُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْ مُسْرِفِينَ
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
7:73
وَ إِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَا هُمْ صَٰلِحًا قَالَ يَٰ قَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُ وا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَ كُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُ هُۥ قَدْ جَآءَتْ كُم بَيِّنَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّ كُمْ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَ كُمْ ءَايَةً فَ ذَرُ و هَا تَأْكُلْ فِىٓ أَرْضِ ٱللَّهِ وَ لَا تَمَسُّ و هَا بِ سُوٓءٍ فَ يَأْخُذَ كُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment.
7:78
فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل رَّجْفَةُ فَ أَصْبَحُ وا۟ فِى دَارِ هِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
7:91
فَ أَخَذَتْ هُمُ ٱل رَّجْفَةُ فَ أَصْبَحُ وا۟ فِى دَارِ هِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ
So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
7:94
وَ مَآ أَرْسَلْ نَا فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّبِىٍّ إِلَّآ أَخَذْ نَآ أَهْلَ هَا بِ ٱلْ بَأْسَآءِ وَ ٱل ضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّ هُمْ يَضَّرَّعُ ونَ
And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah].
7:95
ثُمَّ بَدَّلْ نَا مَكَانَ ٱل سَّيِّئَةِ ٱلْ حَسَنَةَ حَتَّىٰ عَفَ وا۟ وَّ قَالُ وا۟ قَدْ مَسَّ ءَابَآءَ نَا ٱل ضَّرَّآءُ وَ ٱل سَّرَّآءُ فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بَغْتَةً وَ هُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُ ونَ
Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive.
7:96
وَ لَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ ٱلْ قُرَىٰٓ ءَامَنُ وا۟ وَ ٱتَّقَ وْا۟ لَ فَتَحْ نَا عَلَيْ هِم بَرَكَٰتٍ مِّنَ ٱل سَّمَآءِ وَ ٱلْ أَرْضِ وَ لَٰكِن كَذَّبُ وا۟ فَ أَخَذْ نَٰ هُم بِ مَا كَانُ وا۟ يَكْسِبُ ونَ
And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning."
8:52
كَ دَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِ هِمْ كَفَرُ وا۟ بِ ـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَ أَخَذَ هُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِ ذُنُوبِ هِمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلْ عِقَابِ
[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and severe in penalty.
8:68
لَّوْلَا كِتَٰبٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَ مَسَّ كُمْ فِي مَآ أَخَذْ تُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
If not for a decree from Allah that preceded, you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.
8:70
يَٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱل نَّبِىُّ قُل لِّ مَن فِىٓ أَيْدِي كُم مِّنَ ٱلْ أَسْرَىٰٓ إِن يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ فِى قُلُوبِ كُمْ خَيْرًا يُؤْتِ كُمْ خَيْرًا مِّ مَّآ أُخِذَ مِن كُمْ وَ يَغْفِرْ لَ كُمْ وَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allah knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
9:103
خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِ هِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُ هُمْ وَ تُزَكِّي هِم بِ هَا وَ صَلِّ عَلَيْ هِمْ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَ كَ سَكَنٌ لَّ هُمْ وَ ٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah 's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
9:104
أَ لَمْ يَعْلَمُ وٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ يَقْبَلُ ٱل تَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِ هِۦ وَ يَأْخُذُ ٱل صَّدَقَٰتِ وَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱل تَّوَّابُ ٱل رَّحِيمُ
Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful?
9:5
فَ إِذَا ٱنسَلَخَ ٱلْ أَشْهُرُ ٱلْ حُرُمُ فَ ٱقْتُلُ وا۟ ٱلْ مُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَد تُّمُو هُمْ وَ خُذُ و هُمْ وَ ٱحْصُرُ و هُمْ وَ ٱقْعُدُ وا۟ لَ هُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍ فَ إِن تَابُ وا۟ وَ أَقَامُ وا۟ ٱل صَّلَوٰةَ وَ ءَاتَ وُا۟ ٱل زَّكَوٰةَ فَ خَلُّ وا۟ سَبِيلَ هُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
9:50
إِن تُصِبْ كَ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْ هُمْ وَ إِن تُصِبْ كَ مُصِيبَةٌ يَقُولُ وا۟ قَدْ أَخَذْ نَآ أَمْرَ نَا مِن قَبْلُ وَ يَتَوَلَّ وا۟ وَّ هُمْ فَرِحُونَ
If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing.
